A Disability Benefits Questionnaire (DBQ) is a standardized medical form utilized to capture precise clinical data regarding a specific condition. It details essential diagnostic criteria, symptom severity, and functional impact in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).An Evidentiary Medical Opinion (often referred to as a Nexus Letter) is an official document signed by a medical expert establishing a connection between an in-service stressor or a service-connected condition and a current condition (usually described on a DBQ form). Nexus letters can be a deciding factor in granting approval for VA service connections in both initial claims and supplemental/appeals cases.
The Fully Developed Claim (FDC) program allows the VA to process claims faster by requiring that all required evidence be submitted at the same time as the claim. An FDC with SAME includes all the Veteran's relevant medical evidence, a DBQ medical examination, and a Nexus letter. When a Veteran submit all the evidence we provide to the VA, they can bypass the VA C&P exam and have their condition rated by the VA based on our examination findings. Higher-rating claims only need a DBQ medical evaluation.
